Job Overview
AECOM is seeking a Building Civils Engineer โ Data Center to join its Enterprise Capabilities team in Cape Town. The role supports both local and global project teams, delivering civil engineering design solutions for data center infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will work on detailed civil designs including earthworks, drainage systems, roads, pavements, and underground services while contributing to multidisciplinary engineering delivery in a hybrid working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed civil engineering designs including:
- bulk earthworks
- water reticulation
- stormwater systems
- sewer systems
- road geometry
- pavement design
- cable duct networks
- Develop civil models using Civil 3D and Revit
- Specify and size civil infrastructure components such as pumps, tanks, and interceptors
- Produce engineering drawings and design documentation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and contractors
- Attend design, planning, and site coordination meetings
- Conduct occasional site inspections
- Manage low-complexity civil engineering projects independently
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality assurance, and engineering standards
- Assist with bids, proposals, and technical submissions
Qualifications
Education
- BEng or BSc Engineering in Civil Engineering
- MEng is advantageous
Experience
- Minimum 4+ years post-qualification experience
- Experience in building civils and infrastructure design
- Exposure to data center or large-scale building services projects is advantageous
- Experience leading small design tasks or project components
Skills
- Proficient in Civil 3D
- Knowledge of Revit (MEP and structural advantageous)
- Experience with EPANET and SWMM
- Strong understanding of:
- water supply systems
- stormwater design
- sewer reticulation
- road layer works
- bulk earthworks
- Strong analytical and numerical ability
- Good communication and report-writing skills
- Strong planning and coordination ability
- Ability to manage deadlines under pressure
- Commercial awareness and risk understanding
