Job Overview
Kumba Iron Ore is seeking a skilled Engineering Supervisor – JIG Beneficiation Electrical to oversee electrical maintenance and repair activities within the beneficiation plant. The successful candidate will supervise a team responsible for maintaining electrical equipment, control systems, power distribution networks, and associated machinery.
This position is ideal for an experienced electrical professional with strong leadership ability, technical mining experience, and a commitment to maintaining safe and efficient operations. You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, reducing downtime, managing maintenance schedules, and supporting the long-term performance of plant assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and promote a strong safety culture by ensuring all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Supervise a team of electricians and maintenance personnel to achieve safe and efficient work execution.
- Ensure maintenance plans are developed and followed for all electrical equipment and systems.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules to minimise operational interruptions and maximise equipment availability.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of electrical systems, power distribution units, protection equipment, and control systems.
- Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, SLAMs, and workplace audits.
- Monitor critical controls, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in root cause analyses for equipment failures and implement long-term solutions.
- Review and close electrical work orders, statutory records, and fault reports accurately.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to team members to improve skills and performance.
- Manage contractor performance and ensure compliance with operational standards.
- Monitor maintenance costs, budgets, and expenditure within the assigned area.
- Support sustainability initiatives and ensure environmental compliance within the discipline.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to improve plant performance and reduce downtime.
- Develop and maintain Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for team members.
Qualifications
Education
- Grade 12 or N3 Technical qualification.
- Relevant Engineering Qualification at NQF Level 5.
- Occupational Red Seal Certificate in an Electrical Trade.
- Valid South African Driver’s Licence.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an operational electrical engineering environment within the mining industry.
- Proven experience supervising maintenance teams in a plant or mining environment.
- Experience with electrical drawings, system design, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution.
- Experience in budget management, cost control, and contractor supervision.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering systems and maintenance procedures.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Sound understanding of safety, health, environmental, and mining regulations.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
