Job Overview

The Houseman plays a critical support role within the housekeeping department, ensuring that guest rooms, public areas, and operational spaces meet the hotel’s cleanliness and presentation standards.

This role goes beyond cleaning—it involves inspection, coordination, guest interaction, and operational support, ensuring smooth daily operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, physically capable, and committed to delivering high-quality service in a fast-paced hospitality environment.


Key Responsibilities

🧹 Housekeeping Operations

  • Record and update the status of cleaned rooms
  • Complete housekeeping checklists and documentation accurately
  • Identify room assignments and cleaning requirements for each shift
  • Inspect guest rooms after cleaning to ensure quality standards are met

🏨 Guest Service & Support

  • Respond promptly to guest requests and service calls
  • Follow proper procedures when entering guest rooms
  • Welcome guests warmly and address their needs professionally
  • Assist guests with special requirements, including accessibility needs

👥 Team & Operational Support

  • Assist management with training, coaching, and motivating team members
  • Support scheduling and daily housekeeping operations
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve departmental goals
  • Maintain strong communication with other hotel departments

⚙️ Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all company safety, hygiene, and security policies
  • Report maintenance issues, hazards, or incidents immediately
  • Handle and store cleaning chemicals and materials safely
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect company assets

📊 Quality & Efficiency

  • Ensure adherence to Marriott’s quality standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness and presentation across all areas

Qualifications

🎓 Education

  • High School Diploma / Grade 12 or equivalent

💼 Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of housekeeping or related experience in hospitality

🛠️ Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Basic computer literacy for reporting and system updates
  • Strong organisational and time management skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25kg (and more with assistance)
  • Comfortable pushing/pulling housekeeping carts
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move for extended periods
  • Good hand-eye coordination and physical stamina
  • Ability to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays
