Job Overview
The Mining Technical Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for driving technical excellence and delivering high-value solutions within the mining sector. Acting as a Castrol technology ambassador, you will lead technical strategy, support key accounts, and ensure the consistent delivery of best-in-class technical services.
This role bridges technical expertise and commercial impact, working closely with customers, distributors, and internal teams to enhance performance, optimise equipment reliability, and unlock business growth opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the mining technical services roadmap for South Africa
- Define and implement Castrol’s technical offerings aligned with business objectives
- Lead innovation initiatives and continuous improvement strategies
Customer Support & Technical Expertise
- Provide advanced technical support, troubleshooting, and application guidance
- Conduct on-site inspections of mining equipment (mobile and fixed plant)
- Deliver condition monitoring insights and reliability improvement solutions
Stakeholder Engagement & Growth
- Build strong relationships with key mining clients and distributors
- Act as a technical advisor supporting sales pipeline and account growth
- Drive cross-selling and upselling through technical differentiation
Training & Capability Development
- Coach distributor teams and internal staff on lubrication and mining applications
- Deliver technical training and knowledge transfer across teams
- Enhance technical capabilities within sales and marketing functions
Project & Performance Management
- Manage field trials, pilot projects, and technical service rollouts
- Deliver case studies and value-driven customer projects
- Ensure alignment with HSE, compliance, and operational standards
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Mechatronics or related)
Experience
- 18–20 years’ experience in mining technical environments
- Minimum 5 years in a technical leadership role
- Proven expertise in lubrication, reliability engineering, and condition monitoring
- Experience working with mining equipment and maintenance systems
