This internship forms part of the Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury Internship Programme for the 2026/27 financial year and is targeted at unemployed graduates residing within the Mpumalanga Province.


Company Overview

The Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury is responsible for managing public finances, coordinating provincial budgeting processes, and supporting economic planning within the Mpumalanga Province. The department ensures sound financial governance, transparency, accountability, and compliance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and other applicable financial legislation.


Role Overview

The Office of the CFO – Accounting Internship is designed to provide graduates with structured, practical exposure to accounting and financial management within a government environment.

Interns will gain hands-on experience in financial administration, accounting processes, reporting, and compliance within the public sector. The internship aims to build a solid foundation in government accounting practices while developing professional skills relevant to careers in accounting, finance, and public financial management.


Key Responsibilities (What You’ll Learn)

During the internship period, successful candidates will receive training and exposure in the following areas:

  • Assisting with day-to-day accounting and financial administration activities

  • Supporting preparation and processing of financial transactions and documentation

  • Assisting with financial reporting and reconciliation processes

  • Gaining exposure to budget management and expenditure monitoring

  • Supporting compliance with PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and financial policies

  • Assisting with record-keeping and maintenance of financial documentation

  • Learning internal control systems and financial governance processes

  • Supporting audit processes and responding to audit queries under supervision


Qualifications

Applicants must have completed a minimum three (3) year qualification from an accredited institution in one of the following fields:

  • Accounting

  • Financial Management

Qualifications may include a National Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree, Honours, or Master’s degree.
