πŸ“Œ Job Overview

The Development Engineer forms part of the Engineering R&D Department and reports to the Engineering R&D Manager.

The role is responsible for discovering, developing, validating, and commercialising new product concepts and enhancements. It involves translating research insights into practical, manufacturable, and market-ready engineering solutions.

The position combines advanced mechanical design, CAD/CAE modelling, structural analysis, field testing, and cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing and product teams.


πŸ› οΈ Key Responsibilities

1️⃣ Product Development & Innovation

  • Evaluate new product concepts for technical and commercial viability

  • Develop new products and strategic extensions to existing product lines

  • Translate customer needs into detailed functional specifications

  • Design, test, and integrate components into final product designs

  • Assess product reliability, safety, cost efficiency, and manufacturability


2️⃣ Engineering Design & Modelling

  • Perform advanced 3D CAD modelling and drafting

  • Use Siemens NX and Teamcenter for design management

  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations

  • Perform structural integrity and dynamic analysis

  • Develop engineering calculations and first-principle assessments

  • Maintain compliance with in-house modelling and detailing standards


3️⃣ Testing, Validation & Performance Evaluation

  • Develop and execute fitness-for-use testing plans

  • Conduct laboratory and field test measurements

  • Validate product specifications and process validation plans

  • Eliminate non-conformance reports (NCRs) through thorough drawing and BOM verification


4️⃣ Manufacturing Collaboration

  • Work closely with manufacturing management to ensure design-for-manufacture (DFM)

  • Ensure welding accessibility and fabrication feasibility

  • Evaluate steel section availability and plate bending constraints

  • Optimise Bill of Materials (BOM) structures

  • Collaborate with contract manufacturers and internal production partners


5️⃣ Customer & Pre-Sales Support

  • Analyse customer technical requirements

  • Propose appropriate engineering solutions

  • Conduct site visits, including measurement-taking

  • Respond to complex technical product queries

  • Assist with development and delivery of training materials


6️⃣ Standards & Continuous Improvement

  • Generate internal engineering standards

  • Participate in development of technical documentation and training material

  • Review initial design intent to identify structural or design weaknesses

  • Support shared ETO and R&D resource allocation across teams when required

  • BEng Mechanical Engineering (required)

  • MEng Mechanical Engineering (advantageous)

  • 3–5 years advanced 3D CAD modelling and drafting experience

  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication industries

  • Welding specification knowledge

  • Strong FEA and structural simulation exposure

  • Field or laboratory test & measurement experience

  • Previous R&D experience preferred

  • Proficiency in Siemens NX & Teamcenter

  • Exposure to Solid Edge or similar CAD tools advantageous

  • Proficiency in Python or similar programming language

  • Multibody Dynamics simulation experience (advantageous)
