Field Modification Operator

Job Purpose

To apply modifications in manufactured Rolling Stock units already delivered by the factory in accordance with the Field Modification Instruction (FMI) documents and Gibela's industrial and quality processes.

Attend to change requests in alignment with field engineering specifications and instructions.

Field Modification

Perform modifications on Rolling Stock units according to the work instruction and company procedures, especially in relation to Industrial and Quality requirements including the repair or replacements of components or parts.

Undertake reworks, retrofits, repairs etc in accordance with company requirements and service orders allocated.

Perform Emergency Maintenance and Diagnostics (EMD) in the event of major repairs after accidents or vandalism.

Inspect and ensure that equipment and tools meet required safety standards prior to use.

Request materials, components and parts from the warehouse in line with service orders.

Perform the necessary modifications, complete and submit the quality self-inspection to the Team Leader for verification by the Quality team.

Update the SES system and close service orders upon completion of each task.

Provide daily feedback to the Team Leader regarding task completion and escalate challenges as needed.

Fix mechanical issues identified during the final inspection (PC11).

Record attendance, task completion, and quality and safety deviations on the digital line sideboard (DLS).

Attend regular team briefings.

Housekeeping, Health and Safety

Adhere to PPE requirements.

Adhere to health and safety requirements, standards and policies.

Isolate the train prior to performing any activity to ensure safe working procedures.

Adhere to AZDP procedures.

Maintain housekeeping standards and return used tools and equipment to designated area/s.

Complete the equipment checklists on a daily basis and report faulty equipment to the Team Leader.

Discard tools in accordance with company procedures where applicable.

Assist Contractors and ensure that they adhere to safety standards.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF Level 4) or N3 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Mechanical or Electrical Trade Test (NQF Level 4).

2 - 3 years in Industrial and technical experience preferably from working in a railway or similar industry.

Experience in the railway industry will be an added advantage.

Knowledge

EHS legislation, policies and standards.

Work instructions including Engineering drawings and electrical schematics.

Special tools.

Train sub-systems.
