Introduction:

A well-established agricultural operation specializing in modern pig breeding and production is seeking a skilled Project Manager to lead farm infrastructure, production, and operational projects.

The role involves planning, executing, and delivering projects on time, within budget, and aligned with the farm's strategic objectives, while coordinating resources, managing risks, and maintaining quality and compliance.

Job Purpose

To plan, execute, and deliver farm projects efficiently, ensuring operational and strategic objectives are met. The Project Manager will lead cross-functional teams, coordinate contractors and resources, manage risks, monitor progress, and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education (essential):

National Senior Certificate (Matric)

Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Engineering, Project Management, or related field

Minimum applicable experience (years):

4 + years' proven experience in practical project management

Required nature of experience

End-to-end project management (planning, execution, monitoring, and closure)

Managing budgets, timelines, contractors, and internal teams

Delivering projects in operational environments with minimal disruption

Skills and Knowledge (essential)

Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Knowledge of project management methodologies

Proficiency in project management software

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Strong risk management and quality control skills

Skills and Knowledge (desirable)

Knowledge of biosecurity, animal welfare, and agricultural compliance standards.

Financial acumen for budget control and cost optimisation.

Other:

Proficient in Afrikaans and English

Own transport and valid driver's license

Willingn to travel to various farms

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS, WEIGHTS AND OBJECTIVES

Project Planning and Organisation

Develop comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets for farm projects (infrastructure upgrades, housing expansion, equipment installation)

Identify and allocate resources (materials, equipment, manpower) efficiently

Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria

Coordinate with farm management to align projects with operational and strategic goals

Leadership and Team Management

Lead and motivate project teams, including farm staff, contractors, and suppliers

Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure accountability among team members

Foster a collaborative and productive work environment

Monitoring, Controlling, and Reporting

Track project progress against milestones, budget, and quality standards

Identify and resolve project issues or delays proactively

Provide regular updates to farm management and stakeholders on project status, risks, and mitigation plans

Risk and Quality Management

Identify potential risks and develop contingency plans to reduce impact

Ensure all project outputs meet health, safety, and quality standards

Maintain compliance with industry regulations

Evaluation and Continuous Improvement

Conduct post-project evaluations to capture lessons learned

Implement best practices to improve the efficiency and quality of future projects

Stakeholder Communication

Maintain clear communication channels between project teams, farm management, and external contractors

Manage expectations, resolve conflicts, and ensure alignment of all parties
