The Risk Management unit supports the identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial, operational, and compliance risks within provincial government structures.

Job Overview

The Risk Management Internship Programme provides graduates with structured workplace exposure in public sector risk management and governance. Interns will gain practical experience in enterprise risk management processes, compliance monitoring, and internal control systems within a government environment.

This internship aims to develop graduates into competent risk practitioners with an understanding of public finance risk frameworks and governance standards.

Key Responsibilities (What You Will Learn)

During the internship, candidates will gain exposure to:

  • Assisting with identification and assessment of organisational risks

  • Supporting development and maintenance of risk registers

  • Learning enterprise risk management frameworks in the public sector

  • Assisting with monitoring of risk mitigation actions

  • Supporting compliance with PFMA and Treasury Regulations

  • Assisting with internal control assessments and reviews

  • Supporting preparation of risk reports for management

  • Learning governance, ethics, and fraud prevention processes

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed a minimum three (3) year qualification from an accredited institution in:

  • Risk Management

Accepted qualification levels include:

  • National Diploma

  • Advanced Diploma

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Honours or Master’s Degree

Education

  • Completed tertiary qualification in Risk Management

  • Qualification must be obtained from an accredited Higher Education institution

  • Academic transcripts must accompany the application

Experience and Skills

Experience

  • No prior work experience required

  • Applicants must not have previously participated in any internship programme

Skills

  • Basic understanding of risk management principles

  • Knowledge of governance and compliance concepts

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Good report-writing and documentation skills

  • Computer literacy, including MS Office

  • Attention to detail and confidentiality awareness

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a structured environment
