ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a fixed term contract position for 2 years. As a Safety Officer, you will be responsible to assist line management in meeting safety, health and environmental standards and implementing safety initiatives in their respective work areas, by verifying compliance to HSE systems during inspections, audits, investigations and leadership interactions and interventions.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
Conduct 30, 45- and 90-days legal inspections;
Conduct internal audits of the system, process;
Follow up and close out all preventative and corrective actions;
Update inspection schedule;
Monitor compliance to required controls, COP, standards, procedures and applicable legislation;
Analyse trends and report to line Managers;
Facilitate event investigations and ensure quality outcomes (MTC's, LTI's and RWC's)
Assist Chief Safety Officer with DMPR reporting;
Investigate and submission of Significant Events, incidents, damages, hazards and complaints;
Challenge line on identified gaps (e.g. reporting, Material Risks deviations , Other risks and hazards, etc.);
Audit and verify the effective implementation of controls and compliance to legal and other requirements;
Assist in the analysis of Safety Statistics Identify specific learning's relevant to the site and communicate as appropriate;
Carry out and participate in Safety Improvement Plans and Safety campaigns.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
Must have a minimum of 3 years' experience in Safety and Risk Management;
In depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996),
Experience in Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) methodology;
Computer literacy in MS Office Suite
Qualifications for this role are
Grade 12;
National Diploma in Safety Management (NADSAM);
SAMTRAC or COMSOC 1 & 2 certificates;
Valid drivers license
