Senior Quantity Surveyor - Mining Industry

One of our clients within the mining industry, based in Dwarsrivier, Limpopo is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all commercial and quantity surveying functions across mining projects, ensuring effective cost control, contract administration, procurement support, and financial management throughout the project lifecycle.

The role requires a proactive professional with extensive mining project experience and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders while ensuring projects are delivered within budget and contractual requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying.

Professional registration with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) will be advantageous.

Minimum of 8 - 10 years' Quantity Surveying experience within the mining industry.

Proven experience working on mining capital projects, infrastructure projects, plant construction, or mining maintenance projects.

Strong knowledge of contract administration, including FIDIC, NEC, GCC or JBCC contracts.

Extensive experience in cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

Experience preparing and evaluating tender documentation and contractor submissions.

Strong understanding of procurement processes and subcontract management.

Experience managing variations, claims, and commercial negotiations.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Advanced Excel.

Experience using cost management, ERP, or project management systems will be advantageous.

Willingness to work on-site in Dwarsrivier, Limpopo.

Roles and Responsibilities

Commercial & Cost Management

Prepare accurate project cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts.

Monitor project expenditure and ensure effective cost control throughout project execution.

Prepare monthly cost reports, financial forecasts, and commercial reports for management.

Analyse project costs and identify opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiencies.

Monitor project budgets against actual expenditure and report on variances.

Contract Administration

Administer construction and mining contracts in accordance with contractual requirements.

Prepare, evaluate, and negotiate contract variations, claims, and final accounts.

Ensure contractual compliance by contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Interpret contract conditions and provide commercial advice to project teams.

Resolve contractual and commercial disputes where required.

Procurement & Tendering

Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs), tender documentation, and commercial schedules.

Evaluate tenders and prepare commercial adjudication reports.

Assist with contractor selection and appointment processes.

Liaise with procurement teams regarding material, equipment, and subcontract procurement.

Monitor supplier and subcontractor performance against contractual obligations.

Project Controls & Reporting

Monitor project progress against budgets, schedules, and contractual milestones.

Prepare payment certificates and verify contractor payment applications.

Manage project cash flow and financial forecasting.

Compile project commercial reports and present findings to senior management.

Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.

Stakeholder Management

Liaise with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, contractors, consultants, and clients.

Attend commercial, progress, and project review meetings.

Provide commercial guidance and support to project teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Compliance & Governance

Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, mining standards, and statutory requirements.

Maintain accurate project records and ensure all documentation is audit-ready.

Support project governance, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems.
