Key Responsibilities

Erect and install steel structures, gantries, and support frameworks for substations

Install electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, isolators, and busbars

Interpret and work from construction drawings, layouts, and technical specifications

Perform mechanical assembly, alignment, and installation of substation components

Assist with cable tray installation, cable pulling, and preparation for terminations

Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, procedures, and site requirements

Safely operate lifting equipment (e.g., cranes, hoists) and apply proper rigging techniques

Conduct basic inspections, fault-finding, and rectification of installations

Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and commissioning teams

Maintain tools, equipment, and high housekeeping standards on-site

Reporting Line:

Reports to: Site Supervisor/Construction Manager/Site Agent

Working Conditions:

Outdoor construction environment

Exposure to heights, heavy lifting, and varying weather conditions

May require overtime, weekend work, and travel

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Preferably Grade 12; however, not essential

Trade Qualification (e.g., Boilermaker, Rigger, Electrician, or equivalent) - preferred

Relevant certifications: The company will assist in renewing expired training certificates if required.

Experience Required

3-8 years' experience in substation construction or a similar heavy industrial environment

Proven experience in erecting high-voltage substation structures (132 kV, 275 kV, and 400 kV preferred)

Practical experience with cranes, rigging equipment, and structural assembly

Familiarity with Eskom or similar utility standards (advantageous in South Africa)
