Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to assist with mechanical and electrical maintenance of the rigid trucks, truck tractors and trailer fleet.

Key Responsibilities

To perform assistance to the Diesel mechanic in performing preventative and ad-hoc maintenance on any of rigids, trucks and trailers fleet.

Maintain workshop appearance through housekeeping.

Assist with improvement/modifications on mechanical and auto electrical vehicles / equipment to improve equipment efficiencies.

Conduct planned maintenance/inspections as per job card schedule and sign off.

Once the job has been completed, send the job card to the Diesel Mechanic to approve the job done.

Assist with mechanical and auto electrical breakdowns.

When working night shift, some key responsibilities are the following: Oil and water checks on vehicles, auto electrical checks, in-cab temperature control checks, attend to after hour breakdowns, assess/report/repair any electrical/structural/mechanical repairs required on rigids/trucks/trailers as required.

Implementation of Safety Health Environment, Risk and Quality (SHEQ)

Comply with health and safety procedures.

Work within the boundaries, rules and regulations of The National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards as well as complying with and applying Vector internal Best Operating Practices and Procedures at all times.

Stock Control

Complete a spares requisition once spares have been drawn from stores in order to have the buyer procure and replenish stock.

Make sure any workshop related stock is well controlled and looked after to avoid any component/part losses.

Effective Teamwork and Self-Management

Take ownership and accountability for tasks and activities and demonstrate effective self-management in terms of planning and prioritizing and self-development.

Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of work are consistently and accurately maintained.

Inform relevant parties in the event of tasks or deadlines not met, the potential risks thereof and provide appropriate resolution.

Demonstrate willingness to help others and "go the extra mile" to meet team targets and objectives.

Be able to work under pressure and over time as and when required in supporting the general Vector business operations.

Flexibility to Vector operational business requirement changes.

Qualifications and Experience

Matric

N3 or Grade 12 with mechanical and auto electrical qualifications

3 years' relevant experience

Code 14 Drivers Licence

Skills and Competencies

Mechanical and auto electrical maintenance.

Assistance with preventative maintenance on rigids, trucks and trailers.

Fault finding and assessment for all relevant fleet equipment.

Hazards and safety precautions.

Fleet equipment maintenance i.e. jacks, stands, lifting equipment and tools of the trade.

Manual dexterity to perform daily tasks.
