PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To Monitor, evaluate and report on Ventilation, Occupational Hygiene and Environmental conditions and make recommendations for improvement. Plan and coordinate construction and sanitation activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Grade 12 (with Mathematics and English) or NQF 4 Equivalent is essential
Chamber of Mines intermediate Mine Environmental Control certificate
Minimum 3 Years practical experience in a Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene
MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
Builds, supports and maintains healthy diverse internal relations and implement remedial actions where required.
Demonstrate knowledge of the Mine Health and safety Act, regulations and definitions.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant current occupational health and safety legislation.
Describe the basic environments of ventilation and underground working place to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans underground ventilation requirements and implements strategies.
Coordinates the activities of Ventilation and sanitation crews.
Monitors and controls environmental conditions regarding gasses, dust, noise, illumination, etc.
Compiles ventilation and Occupational Hygiene Reports.
Monitors and controls the installation and commissions ventilation systems.
Organise and controls underground ventilation construction activities.
Monitors and reports on the hygienic condition and maintenance efficiency of sanitation facilities in the workplace.
Examines refuge bays at the prescribed frequency to ensure they are life sustainable.
Coaches front line Miners and front-line Supervisors on matters relating to ventilation and occupational hygiene (e.g. thermal conditions, gasses, noise, airborne pollution etc.)
Collects samples of airborne particulates in the environment using gravimetric sampling.
Collects water samples for bacteriological and chemical analysis.
Assembles and distributes sampling media (airborne pollutants and noise) as part of the occupational hygiene personal monitoring programme Determines wet and dry bulb temperatures by means of a hygrometer and takes appropriate action.
